Lord of the Flies

LotF:  The Films

In 1963 the first film (and best) was made in Great Britain of Lord of the Flies. You can watch that version here

In 1990 an American version of the film was made. Here is a link to the movie.

We all found many differences between the film versions and the novel, but more differences in the American one. :-(

In the comments section below, choose the difference in the American version that you think changes the story the most, and why you think so.

1) modern times - for me it is significant, because story lost a link with 2WW and writer’s appellation to the theme of nazism.
2) an adult with a children - his participation in a story is minimal. For me it was unclear how the strange Capitan (or pilot) influenced to fábula. It is important, because according Golding, children created their own republic (society, community). It was different world without adults and their rules. I think this moment was important for Golding, because he wanted to show a nature of violence. Violence appeared in children’s souls without influence of adults or society.
3) Piggy was named as Piggy others boys in the movie. - it is important, because according the author he named himself. Only he was unnamed character in the story. It is a very famous trick in a literature - to unname character and give him animalistic nickname. Golding emphasizes that he will be a victim, tragic character in a future.
